Hamilton Fish & Chips, nestled at 175 Hamilton Rd in Felixstowe, is a standout takeaway destination for those craving authentic British fish and chips with a delightful twist. This local chippie masterfully combines tradition with fresh, quality ingredients to deliver a truly satisfying meal that leaves customers coming back time and time again.
The star of the menu, of course, is their wonderfully crispy battered fish. Cod and haddock come highly recommended, with the batter expertly fried to a golden crisp that cracks just right as you bite in, revealing flaky, tender fish beneath. Chips come generously salted, perfectly cooked to a fluffy interior with a slight crunch on the outside, embodying everything classic about this British staple. Beyond the fish and chips, Hamilton also offers a range of burgers—from the hearty 1/4 Lb Burger and Mega Burger to a flavorful Chicken Burger and Vegetarian Burger—each crafted to satisfy a variety of tastes. Their sausages, including the Jumbo Sausage and Saveloy, add comforting variety to the menu, while value-packed meal deals such as the Pollock, Chips & Drink (£10.00) offer a fulfilling dining experience without breaking the bank.
In terms of ambiance, while Hamilton Fish & Chips operates primarily as a takeaway, it pleasantly surprises with four outdoor tables where patrons can enjoy their meals alfresco. This area is a charming spot to savor piping hot meals amid Felixstowe’s coastal air, whether you’re stopping by after a leisurely bike ride or a day out with the family.
What truly elevates Hamilton Fish & Chips is the consistent praise from locals and visitors alike. For instance, Kerry Butcher found it “the best fish and chips we had in a long time,” appreciating the lovely, crispy batter and plentiful chips seasoned perfectly with salt and vinegar. Michael D. Scott describes it as a top contender for Felixstowe’s best chippie, capturing the nostalgic delight of sitting outside on a crisp winter day, drawn in by the irresistible aroma of freshly fried fish. Regular guest CLouP highlights the freshness and variety on offer, remarking on the reasonable prices—a welcome note for both locals and tourists craving quality without excess cost. Meanwhile, adrian galley raves about an exceptional lemon sole dish, underscoring Hamilton’s range beyond the traditional.
Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere round out the experience, with David Brewster noting the thoughtful service extended even to younger guests, making Hamilton Fish & Chips a family-friendly go-to. Gavin Crisp and Lee Hart both emphasize the freshness and cooked-to-order quality, reinforcing the shop’s reputation as Felixstowe’s favourite for classic British comfort food.

The best fish and chips we had in a long time. We had cod (large) and haddock (small), the batter was lovely and crispy, chips were tasty with plenty of salt and vinegar. They had 4 tables outside where you can sit and eat your dinner. Worth the money £18

I don't know if there's a competition to name Felixstowe's best chippie, but, if there was, this would certainly be near the top, On a lovely clear, crisp January day, I was lured by the unmistakable aroma of fish and chips as I cycled past. Returning from the library 30 minutes later, I succumbed! Small cod and chips: £8.30. It was the perfect day to sit outside and watch the world go by as I enjoyed lovely flaky cod in a very light batter and really nicely fried chips. I was more than happy with the portion size, small was perfect for this 71 year old. Having rated this some months ago as one of the best fish and chip shops in the area, I had the opportunity in between meetings to grab a quick bite there. My 'Pensioners' Special' cod and chips was absolutely first class and quite enough for me. All freshly cooked, with a lovely crispy batter and perfect chips. At just £6.80, I thought it to be a great deal. The young lady behind the counter even brought it out to me at the table outside, where I had perched, to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine. Excellent!

Always visit this place when visiting family nearby. The fish and chips are always fresh and tasty and there is plenty of choice on the menu. Prices seem reasonable as well. Can't vouch for the atmosphere because it's a chippy, what do you expect?
